The essentials at a glance

Astira works entirely offline. The app has no internet permission and therefore cannot technically transmit any data from your device. There are no accounts, no advertising, no tracking and no analytics services. No personal data is transmitted to us or to third parties.

Location data (optional)

To display the starry sky for your location, the app can access the device location — only with your explicit consent via the Android permission prompt (legal basis: Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR).

  • The location is used exclusively on the device to compute the sky view.
  • The location most recently used is stored on the device so that the app does not fall back to a default location on the next start. It does not leave the device: the app has no internet access, and Android's backup of the app data is switched off for Astira.
  • The permission is optional: you can instead enter the location manually and revoke a granted permission at any time in the Android settings.

Camera (optional)

For the view with the camera picture behind the star map, the app can access the camera — only with your explicit consent via the Android permission prompt (legal basis: Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR).

  • The camera picture is displayed exclusively on the device while that view is open.
  • No photos or videos are captured, stored or transmitted — the app has neither internet access nor access to the microphone.
  • The permission is optional: the app works fully without it, and you can revoke a granted permission at any time in the Android settings.

Sensor data

In live mode the app uses motion and orientation sensors (rotation sensor, magnetometer) to determine the device's viewing direction. This data is processed exclusively in real time on the device and is neither stored nor transmitted.

Contact by email

If you write to us — for example via “Contact & feedback” in the settings — we process your email address and the content of your message solely in order to answer it. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in responding to enquiries (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). We do not pass the message on, and we delete it once your matter has been dealt with and no statutory retention periods apply.

Locally stored settings

The app stores your settings exclusively locally on your device: night mode, brightness limit, distance unit, active layers, language choice, live mode, the location most recently used and the state of the introductions. This data is transmitted neither to us nor to third parties and is not included in Android's backup either; it disappears when you uninstall the app or clear the app data.

Google Play

When you obtain the app via Google Play, Google processes data as an independent controller (e.g. about installation and crashes). You can find information about this in Google's privacy policy:

Your rights

Unless you write to us yourself, we do not process any data about you — the app transmits none. You are generally entitled to the rights under Art. 15–21 GDPR (access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection, data portability) as well as the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR). Direct questions to the email address given above.
